Technology Award for Metro Istanbul

Metro Istanbul gets another award from the field of technology
Metro Istanbul, one of the affiliate companies of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), was deemed worthy of an award in the category of Operational Competence Project at the Technology Captains Awards. The event was held for the 5th time this year, with the Mobile Personnel Attendance Control System (PDKS), which is developed to reduce the contact of its employees with each other during the pandemic process.

Turkey's largest urban rail system operator, Metro Istanbul, not only serves more than 2.5 million passengers a day, with its 17 lines and 195 stations with a length of 191.45 kilometres, but also carries out important projects in the field of R&D and technology.
Providing uninterrupted transportation service to Istanbulites during the pandemic process, Metro Istanbul, with the Mobile PDKS application developed to protect the health of its employees by reducing contact with each other, is in the Operational Competence Project category at the Technology Captains Awards. The event was organized for the 5th time this year by BThaber newspaper, one of the important channels of technology publishing, in which 68 projects competed in 6 categories.

“We develop projects with high added value for our country with our 375 engineers and software developers.”
Underlining that they are a company that not only uses technology as a metro operator, but also creates technology, Metro Istanbul General Manager Ozgur Soy said, “We develop and create technologies with our 375 engineer and software team working in our company, in order to reduce foreign dependency, projects with high added value for both our company and our country. The pandemic process has been challenging for us as well as for all sectors in our country. While no positive cases have been announced in our country yet, we took action quickly and started disinfection works in all our stations and vehicles. Even when there were curfews, we were on duty and continued our services uninterrupted so that the functioning of life would not be disrupted. Unfortunately, we also had friends who got sick or even lost some of them. In this process, we have taken a series of measures to protect the health of not only our passengers but also our employees. One of them was the Mobile PDKS application. There are devices that our employees use to read their personnel cards when entering and leaving the company. Mobile PDKS application was developed by our Information Systems Directorate in order to reduce the contact caused by these common devices.

“We also receive requests from other companies”
General Manager Soy said, “Our employees are not located in a single building. We employ 5500 people at our 195 stations and 15 plants. All of our colleagues working in our company can enter and exit the company with their mobile phones without using the PDKS devices at the building entrances by downloading the Mobile PDKS application. Our application, which continues to be used intensively by our employees after the effects of the pandemic have decreased, is also in demand by other companies from different regions of Turkey. We are happy that the Mobile PDKS application, which makes our lives easier, was deemed worthy of an award with the public vote. I would like to thank all my colleagues who contributed to the development of the application.
