Our Expectations from Our Passengers

Metro Istanbul, which aims to provide public transportation services at the quality and standards specified in the Passenger Rights Declaration, expects its passengers using urban rail systems to take into account the following warnings in order to achieve this goal.

  • With the authority granted by Law No. 5188, security officers have the authority to deny entry to stations and vehicles to people who do not comply with the rules, to remove them from the system and to prevent them from leaving until law enforcement officers arrive.
  • All passengers, except children under the age of 6, are required to use electronic tickets or cards during their travels and to show their travel cards upon request of the officers.
  • If cards intended for personal use (blue card, discounted, free, student, etc.) are used by third parties, officers have the authority to confiscate the card.
  • It is forbidden to throw garbage in stations and vehicles. Throw your garbage in the trash cans.
  • In accordance with Law No. 4207, the use of tobacco, tobacco products and electronic cigarette-like devices that imitate tobacco is prohibited in public transportation vehicles, stations and all their waiting areas.
  • It is mandatory to act responsibly and respectfully towards the attendants and other passengers, and to comply with the travel rules and the instructions of the attendants.
  • It is forbidden to talk loudly in stations and vehicles and to use devices that play music at a volume that will disturb other passengers.
  • Although there is no requirement for permission for amateur photography and video shooting; It is forbidden to make continuous shootings containing a choreography or scenario for commercial purposes, educational activities and promotional activities, and to photograph or videotape areas where entrance is not allowed. In these cases, it is mandatory to comply with the warnings and instructions of the officers.
  • It is forbidden to enter the station and vehicles with all kinds of flammable, flammable, explosive substances and loads that are liquid, smelly or have the possibility of dispersing. Administrative action will be taken against passengers who cause negative situations during unauthorized entries.
  • Any damage to stations and vehicles or the need for urgent cleaning should be reported to the nearest personnel.
  • It is forbidden to board our vehicles with loads weighing more than 30 kg or larger than 120x60x50 cm (single-piece loads packaged in sacks, parcels, etc.). Even if it remains within these dimensions, our passengers who want to travel with more than one load can travel outside the hours between 07.00-09.00 and 17.00-20.00 and by paying an additional travel fee for each excess load. Loads of weight and shape that cannot be carried by one person, even if they remain within the specified dimensions, are not accepted into stations and vehicles, even if they are packaged in a way that will not cause damage to the environment.                                                                                                                                                        
  • It is forbidden to board our vehicles with luggage weighing more than 30 kg or larger than 120x50x60 cm. Provided that weight and size limits are maintained, a passenger can travel with a maximum of one large-sized suitcase, one cabin-sized suitcase or one small/medium-sized backpack without paying any additional fee.                                                                                                                                                                                        
  • Medium/large size camping and mountaineering type backpacks will be accepted as luggage and entry will only be allowed with one cabin size suitcase or one small/medium size backpack.
  • Apart from these admission rules, passengers who wish to enter with more than 1 piece of luggage may travel by paying an additional travel fee.
  • Passengers traveling with luggage are prohibited from placing their luggage and bags on the seats or leaving them in a way that blocks the passages between the seats. Suitcases that are too large to be carried on your lap or under your feet should be kept in the standing areas next to the door entrances of the vehicles and in places marked as luggage areas in some vehicles.
  • Priority for use in areas reserved for wheelchairs and strollers is given to disabled passengers and passengers with babies.                                          
  • Passengers must enter the station through turnstiles and checkpoints. Administrative action is taken against people who are detected to have entered illegally.
  • It is strictly forbidden to enter areas with "No Trespassing" signs without permission.
  • Emergency situations that may be encountered in stations and vehicles (suspicious package, emergency health problem, falling on the rail line, fire, harassment, attack, etc.) must be reported to the nearest officer directly or through the intercoms in the stations and vehicles.
  • In case of emergencies that may occur in stations and vehicles and the officer cannot be reached, emergency response equipment (fire extinguisher, train emergency stop handle/button, fire alarm button) should be used. If these equipment are used unnecessarily, administrative action will be taken.
  • Our passengers can travel with foldable single-person bicycles and electric bicycles every day during operating hours, and with standard non-folding single-person bicycles and electric bicycles outside of 07.00-09.00 / 17.00-20.00 on weekdays. On weekends, they can travel without any time limit, during operating hours, without paying any extra fee.                                                                                                                                                 
  • Moreover; Our bicycle passengers can use the elevators within their capacity, provided that priority is given to "elderly, disabled, pregnant and children" passengers.
  • We do not accept tandem bicycles into the system due to the lack of suitable areas for positioning the vehicle and its negative impact on pedestrian circulation within the station.                                                                                                                                                                                                     
  • Bicycle parking areas within our stations are for daily use. Parking outside operating hours is prohibited.
  • Our passengers can travel with foldable scooters/e-scooters during operating hours, and with non-foldable scooters/e-scooters only outside peak hours (07.00-09.00 / 17.00-20.00) without paying any extra fee. Traveling with non-folding scooters/e-scooters is prohibited during peak hours. Scooters managed by rental/sharing systems for commercial use are not allowed to enter our stations and vehicles.

The scooters that are allowed to enter must be traveled in accordance with the following rules;

  • Scooters should be carried by hand or pushed by the user without being ridden during the trip. In addition, the last wagons in the vehicle should be preferred and other passengers should not be prevented from getting on and off.
  • It is forbidden to use all types of scooters inside stations and vehicles, and to ride escalators with these vehicles. The person using the vehicle will be responsible for any malfunctions or accidents that may occur due to the use of escalators with these vehicles, and legal action will be taken to compensate these people for damages.
  • Scooters/e-scooters cannot be parked or left at station entrances, rail line fences, glass barriers on platforms, platforms or vehicles. In this case, the scooter/e-scooters will be removed from the area by the police.                                                                                                                                         
  • It is forbidden to use skates, skateboards, hoverboards, bicycles, scooters, electric scooters and ginger-like vehicles inside the station and vehicles. These vehicles should be carried by hand or moved alongside the user without being ridden.
  • Our stations and vehicles are equipped with classic wheelchairs that are approved for the use of our disabled citizens, and battery-powered wheelchairs that can only be controlled via a joystick/driving stick, that technically have the definition and appearance of a wheelchair, and whose chassis clearance (distance between two wheel centers) does not exceed 125 cm. entry is allowed.                                                                                       
  • Vehicles in the following classes are not allowed to enter our stations and vehicles, firstly for themselves, then for our other passengers and for system safety reasons:

                   o  All 2- and 3-wheeled vehicles defined as electric bicycles or electric motorcycles and shaped like mopeds/motorcycles,

                   o Vehicles with 3 or 4 wheels, powered by a battery, battery or fuel engine, used with a two-handed handlebar system, capable of speeding over 10km/h and with a turning diameter larger than 150 cm.

  • Travel with pets is allowed at stations and vehicles at times other than 07.00-10.00 and 16.00-20.00, provided that the following criteria are met:        
  • Dog Types:

 o  Guide dogs accompanying disabled people,
         •    Upon the request of the officers, the Disabled Card of the person who wants to travel with a guide dog and the Guide Dog Card of the dog must be shown.
         •    Guide dogs, like all dogs allowed to enter the system, will be able to travel under the control of their owner with a leash not exceeding 50 cm in length. If the dog owner presents his disabled card, there is no muzzle requirement for these dogs.
         •    Guide dogs can travel without any time limit.

o  Medium and Large dogs,
         •    Dogs other than those defined as companion and small size, 50 cm. They can travel at times other than 07.00-10.00 and 16.00-20.00, provided that the collar and muzzle not exceeding the length are not removed during the journey.

o  Medium and Large dogs,

Medium and large size dogs will be kept in a cage or outside the cage, on the ground and next to their owner in the vehicle, without blocking the corridors. Small dogs should be carried on their owner's lap during the journey.
Cages will not be allowed to be placed on the seats and dogs will not be allowed to sit on the seats.
Metro Istanbul has the right to restrict the entry of dogs into the system, even in cages, in cases where there is a higher passenger density than normal.

  • A passenger can only travel with one dog; entry with more than one dog will not be allowed.
  • In case of behavior contrary to the "Rules of Traveling with Dogs" determined by the business and announced through communication channels, dog owners will be subject to Turkish Code of Obligations 67-68. Necessary legal actions will be taken in accordance with the articles and Article 177 of the Turkish Penal Code.
  • Also; 3. Dog owners will be responsible for compensation for any damage suffered by persons, equipment and areas of use, and for cleaning the pollution (feces, urine, etc.) caused by the animals.                                                                                                                                                           
  • Other Animals:
  • All cat species will be allowed to travel, provided that they are carried only in bags (cat bags), baskets or cages specifically designed for transporting animals. It will not be allowed to carry school bags, market bags, sports backpacks, material boxes, parcels, handbags and similar materials. Cats that are not transported under the above-mentioned conditions will not be allowed to travel, even if they are carried on a leash or on a lap.
  • Small domestic bird species (nightingale, canary, etc.) will be allowed to travel, provided that they are carried in a cage.
  • May harm other passengers if released in any way; Predatory and poisonous animals, reptile species, arthropods, insects, primates, wild bird species and farm animals are excluded from this scope. These animals are not allowed to enter stations and vehicles under any circumstances. Administrative action will be taken by holding the person responsible for any adverse events that may occur after unauthorized entry with such animals.
  • For your safety, do not cross the yellow line on the platforms.
  • All kinds of music broadcasting or playing live music in stations and vehicles is subject to permission.
  • Begging and peddling are prohibited in stations and vehicles.
  • It is forbidden to promote products or hang labels or posters for promotional purposes at stations and vehicles.
  • The rules for entering our stations and vehicles with weapons and similar devices, within the conditions determined by law and regulations No. 6136, are explained in the following articles. The security guards at our stations work in accordance with Law No. 5188 and are obliged to inform the law enforcement forces if passengers who do not comply with the following rules are detected.                                                                                             
  • Drilling and Cutting Tools:

             o In accordance with Law No. 6136, it is forbidden to enter stations and vehicles with any kind of piercing or cutting tools and to travel with them. (dirk, dagger, assault stick, skewer, switchblade, machete, sword, bayonet, bayonet, pointed and slotted knives, mace, knob whip, strangulation wire or chain, brass knuckles and similar tools of a special nature to be used only in attack and defense. )
             o Even if they are among the tools that are allowed to be carried in the regulation that determines the provisions regarding the carrying of piercing and cutting tools, no piercing or cutting tools can be carried on the body, in pockets, linings, hidden parts of clothes, inside socks and shoes, or in accessories such as hats, belts, walking sticks and wristbands. and vehicles are not allowed. In accordance with Article 54 of the regulation of Law No. 6136, which determines the principles of transportation, those within the scope of exception can be transported under the following conditions:

  • The tool must be carried in a special carrying case, tool bag, suitcases, bags, handbags, sacks, cloth bags or packaging.
  • Even if it is in a carrying bag, it should be kept in a case or packaged to prevent its use in sudden events.
  • Drilling and cutting tools cannot be carried on your person, even for professional, educational or sports purposes. If it is moved, legal actions will be taken in accordance with Article 15 of the relevant law.                                                                                                                                                     
  • Firearms: 

              o In accordance with Law No. 6136, it is prohibited to enter stations and vehicles with all kinds of firearms, except for those with a carrying license and those with a smoothbore shotgun license. Even if they are licensed to carry, if these weapons are displayed or are detected to be ready to fire, the security forces are notified and the persons are not allowed to enter and travel.

  • Air Guns and Gun-Looking Toys:

            o Air Guns:

  • It is free to travel with air guns used in sports competitions, subject to the following rules;
  • Having the shooting athlete's license with the person
  • Having the gun license or sports gun permit with the person
  • If attending a competition or training, showing the participation/permission certificate obtained from the relevant institution or organization.
  • There is no ready-to-fire ammunition in the gun.
  • Carrying the gun unloaded in its own holster

              o Replica Airsoft Toys and Equipment:

  • It is free to travel with replica gun-looking toys used in airsoft games, which are defined as hobby sports, within the following rules;
  • Keeping receipts for toys/equipment such as rifles, pistols and grenade launchers that can be defined as weapons,
  • There are no ready-to-fire beads (BB) in the toy, and the magazines, also called magazines, are not empty and inserted into the toy,
  • For rifles, a red or orange flame concealer must be installed,
  • Carrying toys in boxes, cases or bags that are not visible from the outside,
  • Not to be removed from the box, case or bag in stations or vehicles, and not to be carried on the person's body or clothes in any way,
  • If the passenger carries the toy/replica on himself, displays it or carries it in a visible manner, the police will be informed and he will be prevented from traveling.                                                                                                                                                                                                                            
  • It is forbidden to consume any kind of food or drink inside the vehicle that may disturb other passengers (heated and emit odors) or cause pollution in case of spilling or falling (beverages other than water, ice cream, etc.).
  • Passengers traveling with backpacks must carry their backpacks in their hands and at foot level in the vehicle in order not to disturb other passengers.
  • Do not prevent other passengers from sitting and having a comfortable journey by occupying more space than the seat reserved for you in the seating areas.
  • It is forbidden to put your feet on the seats and step on them.
  • It is forbidden to sit on the areas at the bow of our vehicles or to prevent access to these areas by placing loads.
  • Do not place suitcases, loads, etc. behind the mechanic cabin doors. It is forbidden to prevent its opening by placing or leaning on it.
  • Passengers traveling with baby strollers, wheelchairs and bicycles are prohibited from using escalators for their own and other passengers' safety. These passengers are required to use elevators instead of escalators and obtain information from the staff in cases where there is no elevator or the elevator is out of service.
  • It is forbidden to force the elevators, Platform Separator Door Systems and vehicle doors in the stations to open.
  • For your safety, it is forbidden to climb on the barriers at the stations, lean on them and lean on the rail line over these areas.
  • Hold on to the handles while traveling inside the vehicle.
  • Suitcases, luggage, bags, etc. Do not prevent other passengers from sitting by placing loads on the seats and between the seats.
  • Leave the areas reserved for priority passenger groups (pregnant, disabled, elderly, babies and veterans) empty or provide space if necessary.
  • Give priority to passengers with baby strollers, wheelchairs, pregnant women, the elderly and disabled passengers when using elevators.
  • Be careful with your personal belongings and bags during your travel. In case of loss, please contact our call center at 153. Please note that law enforcement authorities will be informed and suspicious package enforcement will be carried out for unclaimed packages and bags found in stations and vehicles.
  • For your safety, it is forbidden to enter live areas. Entering live areas can be life-threatening!
  • Do not open the windows in air-conditioned vehicles.
  • Hold small children's hands on escalators and walkways. For the safety of your children, do not allow them to wander around the stations on their own.
  • Help elderly people by taking their arms on escalators and walkways.
  • Travel on escalators and walkways by holding the hand band.
  • Small dogs must be carried on escalators and walkways.
  • For your personal safety, be careful about your belongings such as long dresses, skirts, scarves, high-heeled shoes, slippers and umbrellas that may get stuck on escalators and walkways.
  • On escalators and walkways, leave the left side empty for walkers.
  • It is forbidden to sit in places other than escalators, conveyors, elevators and designated seating areas in the vehicle.
  • Sitting on the edges of escalators and walkways is prohibited.
  • Running on escalators, walkways and fixed stairs is prohibited.
  • It is forbidden to travel opposite the direction of movement of escalators and walkways.
  • Pay attention to the space between the platform and the vehicle when getting on and off the vehicles.
  • Do not try to get in or out of vehicles after the door closing sound.
  • Do not try to get in or out of the elevator while the doors are closing.
  • Be careful with your clothes, bags, etc. and your hands when opening and closing the doors inside the vehicle.
  • Clothes, bags, etc. may be blocked while the Platform Separator Doors and Elevators' doors at the stations are opened and closed. Be careful not to get your belongings and hands trapped.
  • It is forbidden to pass over, climb on or travel on the coupling between the wagons.
  • It is forbidden to enter stations and vehicles with any type of wheelbarrow used for carrying loads.
  • For your safety, it is forbidden to lean on vehicle doors, paks doors on platforms and elevator doors.
  • More than the specified number of people cannot board the cable car cabin.
  • More than the specified number of people cannot enter the elevator cabin.
  • If you have to use the stroller on the escalator, please keep it straight in the direction of travel.
  • It is forbidden to throw any substance out of vehicle windows.
  • It is forbidden to take your body parts such as hands and arms out of the vehicle windows.
  • For your safety, do not go down to the rail line. Entering the rail line is life-threatening!
  • It is forbidden to throw butts in garbage cans, flower pots and on the ground.
  • For your safety, it is forbidden to climb or climb on the overhead covers at station entrances and platforms.
  • It is forbidden to enter the driver's cabin except authorized personnel.
  • Please do not wait in front of the doors, move towards the middle of the vehicle. Waiting in the vehicle in the door area and on the platform, centering the door, affects the landing and boarding circulation and has a negative impact on the timeliness of the flights.
