Yücel Koç from the Renowned Newspaper Türkiye, Writes an Article About the Renovation of Rails!

During the construction of Madinah Part of The Hejaz Railway, Sultan Abdul Hamid the second ordered that works should be carried out to prevent the noise and vibration as a mark of respect and reverence to the personality of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). As a result of this sensitivity, mats were installed into the rails with the technology of that period. A new project was put to effect in parts of T1 Kabatas – Bagcilar Tram Line. Delicate attention and care was shown to the parts of Cemberlitas district where Sultan Abdul Hamid the second was put to his eternal rest. To return the aforementioned favour of the Sultan Abdul Hamid the second, special materials used in railway infrastructure of this particular line to minimise the noise. The renovation project took 81 days and involved replacement of 150 meters of rail in front of the tomb and maintenance of a total of 306 meters of rails in both directions.

The Story of the Rails That Are Renewed for Sultan Abdul Hamid the second – Yucel KOC - TURKIYE GAZETTE

No one knows but the project belongs to my esteemed brother Hayati Inanc …
When he appeared on a TV Programme with the grand children of Sultan Abdul Hamid the second in the night of 31 December 2016 he said that “Sultan Abdul Hamid the second ordered that mats should be installed into the rails of the Madinah Part of the Hejaz Railway so trains will not make noise when they are approaching to the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) as a mark of reverence and respect we should consider showing the same sensitivity to the Sultan”. Brother Hayati did not expect that anyone would pay attention to his speech but Kasım Kutlu who is the General Director of Metro Istanbul Inc. proved him otherwise by giving him a call a couple of days after his speech. Kasım Kutlu stated that he paid close attention to what brother Hayati said and added that he is going to do whatever he can to carry out that project and after a while brother Hayati quails that the project was forgotten. He is proven wrong once again by Kasım Kutlu who gives the good news about the project on 10th of February 2018 on the 100th year anniversary of the demise of the Sultan Abdul Hamid the second. Kasım Kutlu said that “in order to minimise the vibration and noise we are going to install plastic fittings and special rails in front of the tomb. In addition to that we are going to put an illuminated warning system for the driver to not to sound the horn. I hope this will be sufficient for what you ask”.

Hayati Inanc expresses his thanks and project gets finalised at the end of May and becomes operational. We made news about this good news in our newspaper in those days about the renewed railways and illuminated warning. In this 150 meter section LED illuminated warning system intercedes and pedestrians are warned without the train horn. This smart system also allows the people with push chairs, elderly or disabled people who are moving slowly to finish their crossing. Red font LED warning signs also warns the contemplative people or people with headsets. Despite all these thoughtful and delicate measures, people in the tram, especially the tourists do not know about this detail.

In the past couple of days I received news from Hayati Inanc saying that he made a proposal to put a sign to the designated area where the tomb is, but that did not happen. But he was informed By Mr. Kasım Kutlu that this information is going to be given to the passengers while they are in the tram and Mr. Hayati Inanc was asked to deliver a text that can be put on the signs. When I was informed about this, I offered them to make an announcement in Turkish and English within that 150 meter section instead. I believe whatever measure they take, it is going to complete and crown this delicate project.
