Metro Istanbul carried 757,971,355 passengers in 2022
Metro Istanbul, one of the affiliate companies of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), carried 757,971,355 passengers in 2022 on the 17 lines it operates.
Metro Istanbul, Turkey's largest urban rail system operator has reached 17 lines and 195 stations with a total length of 191.45 kilometres, with the commissioning of F4 Boğaziçi University/Hisarüstü-Aşiyan Funicular Line and 4 stations of M4 Line in 2022.
Trains circumnavigated the globe 2,766 times
Welcoming more than 2.5 million passengers a day on the metro, tram, cable car and funicular lines, Metro Istanbul covered 110,845,623 kilometres in 2022 and provided 1,744,283 services.
After the increase in the number of services, the kilometres travelled increased by 20%. 951 trains serving in Metro Istanbul travelled the equivalent of traveling around the world 2,766 times throughout the year.
Hosting 757,971,355 passengers in 2022, Metro Istanbul carried the population of Istanbul approximately 47 times. The number of passengers increased by 59% compared to 2021. The day with the highest number of passengers carried in 2022 was Thursday, October 6th, with 2,869,435 people.
M2 Line carried the most passengers
While the 9 metro lines serving in Istanbul carried 542,681,558 passengers throughout the year, the line with the highest number of passengers was M2 Yenikapı-Hacıosman Metro Line with 157,762,627 people.
207,777,406 passengers travelled on the tram lines of Metro Istanbul this year. The line serving the highest number of passengers was T1 Kabataş-Bağcılar Tram Line with 137,885,171 people.
Throughout the year, 5,516,521 Istanbulites travelled on funicular lines and 1,995,871 on cable car lines.
10,108 additional services provided due to the events
Metro Istanbul provides instant services according to the passenger density, rendered 10,108 additional services in 2022 during events such as matches, concerts, rallies, congresses, Ramadan and heavy snowfall.
The Night Metro practice served 2,435,333 passengers from August to the end of the year.
In 2022, 38% of the passengers in Istanbul's metro were women and 62% were men.
