The Station That Produces Its Energy Itself

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Affiliate Metro Istanbul installed an 8, 4 kW Solar Energy System at Metris Tram Station. The system provides energy required for the station which is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 7 houses.
Metros are the most environmental friendly mode of transportation and they brought the standards to another level by beginning to generate energy for their own needs. Within the context of the project which was initiated by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Affiliate Metro Istanbul İstanbul, an 8, 4 kW Solar Energy System was installed at Metris Tram Station. There are 6 waiting platforms inside the station and 84 flexible 100w solar panels were installed at these roofs.

It is Equivalent to Plant 147 Trees in a Year…
Electricity that is generated by this “Green Station” concept is used for the internal needs of the station. They system also prevents carbon emission of 5, 8 tonnes by generating an average of 10MWh electricity in a year. Metris Station Solar Energy Plant has the capacity to provide a year of energy need of 7 houses and also contributes to the environment by taking out 5 cars from the traffic in a year which is equivalent to plant 147 trees.
Metro Istanbul aims to create an awareness for its employees and passengers and encourage to use renewable energy sources to contribute to decrease city’s carbon emission.
