Metro Istanbul enhanced hygiene measures in metros…

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) conducts disinfection works at metro vehicles and stations to prevent the spread of epidemic diseases caused by viruses. Metro Istanbul carry out cleaning works on vehicles and stations on daily basis. Metro Istanbul also carry out periodical disinfection works on stations and vehicles.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) units conduct cleaning works every evening at metro vehicles and stations against the virus threat. Metro Istanbul provides services to more than 2 million passengers a day. Units also conduct cleaning works during the day when the passenger density is not high when the vehicles are pulled to the appropriate parking areas and routine cleaning is applied for the second time. In addition to this daily cleaning applied in vehicles and stations, Metro Istanbul washes all metro vehicles and stations with a special disinfectant fluid.

The cleaning team of 590 people is working…
Units clean down places such as passenger seats, back and bottom parts of the seats, buttons, passenger handles, glass edges, Istanbul card vending devices, passenger turnstiles, escalators, common areas and ventilation covers against viruses that may cause respiratory diseases. Disinfection works of 844 metro vehicles carried out by 90 people and a team of 500 people work at the stations and other compounds.

“We get ready to do our part”
Metro Istanbul General Manager Ozgur Soy underlined that they carry more than 2 million passengers a day and gave some information about the disinfection works. Reminding that infectious diseases are on the agenda of the whole world in these days, Ozgur Soy stated that everyone has a duty against these diseases and said, “As Metro Istanbul we get ready to do our part. Metro Istanbul staff clean all metro vehicles every day. We have also recently taken extra precautions in terms of disinfection. ”

It prevents the growth of microorganisms…
As a result of their research, General Manager Soy stated that they have taken precautions to prevent microorganisms from growing in the subway and that they provide long-term protection by preventing the growth of micro-organisms by creating a layer on the surfaces in the vehicle using nanotechnology.

"We do everything to protect Istanbulites from the virus"
Stating that they carry out the disinfection process with anti-allergic materials that have no harm to human health, General Manager Soy said, “The products we use for disinfection works do not come out in normal routine washings and cleaning. We started to use them in certain periods and in addition to our daily measures. Ventilation is also very important. We work for the maintenance of the metros so ventilation systems work very well. We do everything we can to protect Istanbulites from this danger. "

Routine cleaning will be done twice a day…
Routine cleaning performed after the end of each night will be repeated in suitable lines and vehicles during the day when the passenger density is not high. The lines where cleaning works are going to be applied are indicated below:

M1    Kirazli - Interior of the vehicle will be cleaned in the platform area at Kirazli Station during the off-peak hours. The vehicle will return to its service when the cleaning procedure is finished.

M2    Yenikapi - Cleaning procedure starts at Yenikapi station when passengers evacuate the vehicle. The cleaning staff will get in the vehicle to carry out the cleaning until the vehicle arrives at the platform.

M3    Kirazli - Interior of the vehicle will be cleaned in the platform area at Kirazli Station during the off-peak hours. The vehicle will return to its service when the cleaning procedure is finished.

M4    Kadikoy - Interior of the vehicle will be cleaned in a platform area at Kadikoy Station during the off-peak hours.

M5    Uskudar - Interior of the vehicle will be cleaned in the platform area at Uskudar Station during the off-peak hours. The vehicle will return to its service when the cleaning procedure is finished.

T1    Beyazit - Interior of the vehicle will be cleaned at the middle platform at Beyazit Station during the off-peak hours.
