Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Ekrem Imamoglu investigated Nurtepe Station of M7 Mecidiyekoy-Mahmutbey Metro Line, which is under construction. Citizens showed their gratitude from their balconies after they learned that Mayor Imamoglu would come to the station. Responding to the applause of citizens, Mayor Imamoglu went down to the turnstile floor. Head of IMM Rail Systems Department, Pelin Alpkokin and General Manager of Metro Istanbul, Ozgur Soy accompanied Mayor Imamoglu. Pelin Alpkokin provided technical information about the ongoing works on the line and informed Mayor Imamoglu that the archaeological works at Besiktas and Kabatas stations also continue.
“Construction works at the stations almost finished”
Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu also evaluated the studies and said, “There is a foreign subcontractor here. The agreement regarding the signalling system is made with that company. Employees of this company are mostly from Spain and they are managed from a centre in Spain. They became unable to provide this service as of March 3rd unfortunately because of Covid pandemic. They had to leave this work site and return to their country. We cannot get this service for almost 2.5 months. Some local employees do this service here according to the information provided by the contractor company. However, this study is an inadequate. As you can see now, the stations are completely finished. In such an environment, the only shortcoming is signalling. Mayor Imamoglu stated that intensive contacts are continuing to bring the employees of the contractor company from Spain and added, “As soon as we start, we want to receive the signalling service of our line and present this line to the residents of Istanbul as fastest as possible. If we had not had such a sad event we would have commissioned the line in May. We have some other construction sites and projects where Covid caused such problems. We are sorry for this hitch. We are going to solve the problem quickly”.
