Mayor Imamoglu Paid a Visit to M7 Depot and Workshop Site

Mayor Imamoglu: “We cannot fit in above the ground therefore we need to use underground with maximum efficiency”

Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Ekrem Imamoglu inspected ongoing Kabatas-Mahmutbey Metro Line Project. Mayor Imamoglu was accompanied by Secretary General of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Yavuz Erkut, Deputy Secretary General Responsible for Transportation Orhan Demir, and Head of Rail Systems Department Assoc. Dr. Pelin Alpkökin along with the directors of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Metro Istanbul. Mayor Imamoglu was debriefed about the ongoing construction works and then inspected the train at the platform. Mayor Imamoglu inspected the widespread construction site and then informed journalists in front of the metro tunnel entrance about the metro construction.

Mayor Imamoglu thanked everyone who has endeavoured in this metro line stating that “Works of this nature is important. It starts with designing and continues with the contribution of financing, contracting companies, engineers, workers and our municipality and everyone is an important asset of this process. We are aiming to start first driving of this line by January 2020. Test drives and safety related measures are crucial at this period of time. This part consumes most of the time of this process. We are hoping to make first stage in between Mecidiyekoy-Mahmutbey available for our people with the safest possible way. I would like to indicate that 5 of these vehicles are already here and 15 of them are being prepared. These vehicles are environment friendly and disabled friendly and they are manufactured in Adapazari. These vehicles are capacious and spacious and provide easier and accessible journey for disabled people. This line is an innovative line with these characteristics. Istanbul needs metros a lot and metros should be the main actor in transport because we cannot fit in above the ground therefore we need to use underground with maximum efficiency”.

Test works of the vehicles on the relevant line continue on the first stage which is planned in between Mecidiyekoy and Mahmutbey. Authorised and technical departments of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality along with experts of Metro Istanbul take part in the aforementioned works. Metro Istanbul presents its 30 years of operational experience and fund of knowledge not just in current operations but also in the test and commissioning processes is proud to serve the esteemed people of Istanbul.
